Camping with a 15 week old Pup.

In Febuary 2017 we set off in out first solo trip in Vera with our 15 week old puppy Daisy. Leaving Newcastle early in the morning we travelled to our first stop at Bonny Hills 230km away. We couldn't recommend Reflections Holiday Park Bonny Hills enough. There was everything you could possibly ask for and being right on the cliff provided a great ocean breeze. On either side of the camp ground there are two great surf breaks also. We made some new friends along the way sharing stories about our love for Volkswagens and the love of camping.  This is Wombat. He is blind but that doesn't stop him. Next stop Reflections Holiday park at Moonee Beach. 181km further north and we set up very quickly as the rain came to say hello. As this was our first trip we planned each stop to be around the three hour mark so Daisy stuck in the van for too long. Moonee Beach was a great location and just 15minutes walk away from the park was ...

Fresh doorcards

To clean up the front area of the interior, the existing door card needed to be replaced. Only one was included in the purchase of the van and in NSW driving without doorcards is illegal - your vehicle can be defected if caught doing so. I enjoy making doorcards as it is not too hard of a job and can change the look of the interior quite dramatically without having to spend too much. We decided to start afresh and make everything new, changing the design completely. This is when a piece of paper stepped in along with my filthy shed hands to mark out the shape of the lower door.  Next was to measure and shape the backing for the speaker surrounds. After finding the shape one of my mates Jack came around and we got straight in and were able to make some really solid surrounds out of some 6mm mdf ...

First trip in Vera

After purchasing Vera we had to wait two weeks until we were able to hit the road. When the time finally came, we were in convoy with the previous owners Cam and Lucy who recently purchased a 1984 T3 Trakka. We also had Hugh on his 1988 Sr 500 which made it feel like we were stepping back in time, with our 92 the newest of the batch. We took it slow enjoying the perfect weather. Despite Madi getting a little sun kissed from the lack of window tinting, the glorious drive to Treachery Campground went by without a hiccup. Once arriving at the campground we set up and took ownership of a large patch. We set up our awnings which easily housed the rest of the crew for the weekend. When heading home we flew back with the windows down, listening to Hugh as he did fly bys showing off this power to weight ratio compared to our vans. Vera didn’t miss a beat, sitting easily on 110km/h unlike my previous 1600cc VW Beetle which liked to sit around 90Km/h. Once w...
